November 5th is election day! You will be making decisions on Federal, State and County officials. At the very bottom of your ballot is an amendment to the New Hampshire Constitution to vote for. The amendment asks if the mandatory retirement age for Judges should be changed to 75. The current mandatory retirement age is 70. This mandatory retirement age has been in the Constitution since 1792, it is time for a change.
Over the course of my time in the Legislature I discussed with several judges if they thought changing the mandatory retirement age to 75 was a good idea. They all agreed but were not willing to make it an issue. Finally, retired Judge and Representative Robert Lynn put in a Constitutional amendment to do just that. It passed the House 321 yes and 27 no and the Senate 22 yes and 1 no. This amendment does not mean Judges have to stay until they are 75 but gives them that option. I ask that you support this Constitutional amendment by filling in the oval next to YES. Making a change to the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote.
