ABOUT KAREN

Karen was raised in a small town in Northern New York, population 6,000. She headed off to college and graduated with a BA in Political Science and later received an MA in International Relations. She taught elementary school for three years before joining the US Air Force, where she spent 28 years, rising to the rank of Colonel.

Following her retirement Karen and her husband Jim found their forever home in North Conway, NH. Her call to service did not fade with her retirement. She became active in local politics and was elected to serve as a Selectman and on the Budget Committee. In 2008 she ran for State Representative and was elected.

During her time in office, she has represented Conway, Bartlett, Jackson, Hales Location, Harts Location and Eaton. Although her constituents changed throughout the years, based on redistricting, she has always been there to answer questions, find the right person in state government to help with a problem and worked across the aisle to get important legislation passed into law. She looks forward to continuing to serve her constituents. Her experience, knowledge and contacts throughout the Legislature and State government are invaluable to the people of Conway.

Karen has served on the House Transportation Committee and the House Finance Committee. As a member of the House Finance Committee, she chaired Division II which developed budgets for funding Education, Safety, Transportation, Fish and Game and Police Standards and Training. She also served as Chairman of the House Finance Committee. These experiences were extremely rewarding and made a difference to her constituents and the State.

Karen continued to be active in state government, although not an elected official. She worked as an advisor to the NH State Senate to build the FY 2024-2025 and the FY 2026-2027 budgets. She was appointed by the Governor to the Law Enforcement Conduct Review Committee, and she is a public member of the Drinking Water and Groundwater Advisory Commission. She has enjoyed this work as it has provided a deeper understanding of law enforcement and the problems the State is facing with drinking water and groundwater.

Locally, she is an active member of VFW Post 5386, she serves on the MWV Career Tech Center Regional Advisory Board, an active member of the North Conway Rotary Club and is a trustee of the Mount Washington Observatory.
