ABOUT KAREN

Karen was raised in a small town in Northern New York, population of 6,000. She headed off to college and graduated with a BA in Political Science. Latershe received an MA degree in International Relations. She taught elementary school for three years and then joined the US Air Force. She spent 28 years in the Air Force rising to the rank of Colonel.

Following retirement she settled in North Conway, with her husband Jim and it is their forever home. She was active in local politics serving as both a Selectman and on the Budget Committee. In 2008 she ran for State Representative and was elected to serve Conway, Bartlett, Jackson, Harts Location and Hales Location.

The census in 2010 resulted in her district changing to serve the people of Conway, Eaton, and Hales Location. She served this district until 2018. She returned to office in 2020 and eventually became Chairman of the House Finance Committee. While a State Representative, she served all but her first two years on the House Finance Committee primarily developing budgets for funding education, transportation, safety, Fish and Game and Police Standards and Training. It was extremely rewarding, and she believes she made a difference for her constituents and for the state.

The census occurred in 2020 and the district changed again to only representing Conway. She lost the election in 2022. However, that did not mean she has not been active in State politics. She worked with the Senate to build the 2024-2025 budget which ended up passing with a bipartisan vote in both the House and Senate. She has been appointed to the Law Enforcement Conduct Review Committee and the Drinking Water and Ground Water Advisory Committee. She has enjoyed working on both Committees as they provide her with a greater understanding of law enforcement and the problems the state is facing with drinking water and ground water.

Locally, she serves on the MWV Career Tech Center Regional Board as well as being elected as a Commissioner for the Conway Charter Commission.

Karen asks for your vote on November 5, 2024.
